Balchik is a beautiful, cozy and sunny seaside resort in Bulgaria. Very close to Romania, at approximately 5 hours from Bucharest, counting the traffic too, you can easily get there and enjoy some luxurious hotels at amazing prices, definitely cheaper than Romania and great facilities. We stayed at a beautiful hotel with an amazing pool, Hotel Elit Palace and Spa, very close to the main attractions – The Queen’s Castle and the Botanical Gardens. Well, these have stolen my heart. I have heard many amazing things about this place, but you don’t believe it until you see it with your own eyes.
The castle itself is more of a villa, with one floor and just a couple of rooms, but it is so cozy and lovely, that you do not have to miss it out. But the gardens are the absolute stars of this landmark as there are so many, so well kept and so beautiful that you can relax and just wander for hours. Although it was incredibly hot the day we went, we could take a breath of fresh air in their rich vegetation, like an oasis viewing the Black Sea.
There is a lovely winery where we had some great and rare wine. You could take home a nice bottle from here and for the wine collectors, there are bottles from the 1900s, of course, very expensive at a couple of thousands of euros.
