This is not a film. This is an EXPERIENCE
I have just returned home from this absolutely breathtaking film, the biopic of Freddie Mercury from Queen. I am mind-blown!
I couldn’t get up from my seat when the film was over and I felt overwhelmed with the carousel of emotions that I have experienced in the last 2 hours and 20 minutes. And I am not easily impressed… But I haven’t felt this, after seeing a film or even a show, for a very long time! Now, I haven’t been on Broadway in the last two years, that’s true!
The beauty of it is that it takes you throughout Freddie’s life since he was just a baggage handler at the Heathrow Airport in London. You almost grow up with him!
You feel his first small show, getting into his shoes and later on, experiencing his amazing gig at Live Aid fundraising event in 1985. You almost feel what he felt like all his life, in all the key moments, climaxing with being on stage at Live Aid.
The breathtaking close-ups bring you, as an audience, even closer to what Freddie was supposed to be.
You witness his parties, his recordings, concerts and his lonely moments… but what adds up to his amazing ascendance and very vibrant life is the brilliant performance, yes, brilliant! of Rami Malek who completely becomes Freddie. From his body language to his micro expressions, everything is absolutely perfect! He transforms!
Freddie becomes alive for more than 2 hours and you feel grateful to witness such a comeback…
I have to mention this aspect, as from a simple Google search of the film, I have found a lot of bad reviews from important publications that criticize the director, the film and so many things and I keep wondering:
What’s up? Really? Have you seen the film?! I’ve always felt that critics are just unsuccessful artists…
So, hey! Don’t take this article as a critic but just as an experience! My beautiful experience!
If you haven’t seen it yet, try it out! I promise you won’t regret! It is so beautifully built! I have laughed, cried, felt my heart skipping beats and couldn’t breath, feeling both the burden of creation and its wild power and the beautifully overwhelming energy of millions of people singing together!
And every single thing intensely felt for more than 2 hours, like in a wild carousel of feelings! This FILM!
